Charleston Kayaking

Here, my kayak is hauled out on the beach on Dewees Island by Capers Inlet. The paddle out from the mainland in north Mt. Pleasant around Gadsdenville Rd. is one of my favorites.

The Deal

With salt water reaching and curling miles inland, get started with a few of our favorite Lowcountry paddles.

Obviously, you don’t want to head out into any paddling adventure without the proper experience and local expertise.  So check with a local kayak guide and become familiar with hazards unique to our area (hello, alligators? snakes?).

But there’s an extraordinary reward in these waters.  The salt marsh provides some of the best paddling experiences in the country.  There are some black water swamps just a bit inland that are breathtaking (and alligator and snake ridden—no kidding).

As always, be careful, don’t go it alone and get some help if you don’t know what you’re doing.
