Caw Caw Interpretive Center
Caw Caw is on the site of a former rice plantation. Birds, alligators and even otters can be found in this wilderness near Ravenel, west of Charleston.
6 miles of trails, a quarter-mile of elevated boardwalks, interpretive exhibits and lots of history.
Caw Caw was once part of several rice plantations and home to enslaved Africans who applied their technology and skills in agriculture to carve the series of rice fields out of cypress swamps.
Operated by the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission. CCPRC’s Caw Caw page.
Admission: $1. Open W-S, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Call (843) 889-8898 for more info.
