Gadsdenville Landing (Mt. Pleasant)
For access to the marsh between north Mt. Pleasant and Capers Island/Dewees Island, there is no better boat ramp than the one at the end of Gadsdenville Rd. But you’d better have a small boat.
This is probably my favorite spot in Charleston to launch a kayak. The paddle out to Capers Island takes me about an hour and a half.
Know the tide. You can’t even get a kayak out at low tide. Well, you can but it involves a lot of walking in the mud.
So if you’re putting in a boat that’s too big for you to push through a few inches of water, you should plan on only having about 2 or 3 hours around high tide as your window.
The creek is only about 8 feet wide in parts, so you would never take more than a 14’ or so boat out here.
But if you can get out, you’re right at the edge of Copahee Sound, and you have access to some of the prettiest marsh in Charleston.
The ramp is really run-down. It’s gravel and sand at the put in. It seems like there’s always a stinky fish carcass somebody left behind.
The ramp is maintained by Charleston County and overnight parking is prohibited.
