Folly Beach - North End (Morris Island Lighthouse)
Not for swimming and sunbathing, my favorite outdoor spot in town, the beach by Lighthouse Inlet is remote and beautiful.
All the way on the north end of Folly by the old, graffiti-decorated Coast Guard base, the inlet is wild, remote and majestic.
Weathered and defunct Morris Island Light evokes a feeling of nostalgia while the modern Charleston Light flashes even in daylight from Sullivan’s Island.
The eroding north end of Folly is best strolled during the lower hours of the tide. Dolphins are often seen in the inlet.
Take Folly Road across James Island towards Folly Beach. Turn right onto Ashley Ave. Keep driving until you reach a gate. Park nearby and either walk the beach around to the inlet or proceed through the old Coast Guard base.
