Rainbow Row
Perhaps Charleston’s most famous local landmark, Rainbow Row is a section of homes on East Bay St. south of Broad.
The stretch of buildings is generally accepted as those from Tradd St. to Elliot St. going south to north on the west side of East Bay St.
Their stucco facades exhibit vivid pale hues evoking a Caribbean mood. In fact, this color scheme dates back to the turn of the 20th Century when the area was restored following a period of blight after the Civil War1
Rainbow Row garners plenty of attention from locals and visitors alike. The area can be included as part of a walking tour of Charleston’s “South of Broad” and Battery.
