Going on this weekend (Nov. 13-15)

Here’s a little sample of what’s going on this weekend in Charleston.
My pick for Saturday: Cypress Gardens, one of my favorite local “landmarks” is putting on a community benefit.
The benefit – featuring live music from the Hot Shots and Shakin’ Martinis, an inflatable castle, children’s fossil dig, swamp fishing, face painting, balloon art, a raffle and other surprises – will be held throughout Cypress Gardens.

Looks like something from a photo archive, but this old “ruin” was part of the set of The Patriot, filmed at Cypress Gardens in 1999. Photo from flickr.
Here’s a bit of what the City Paper has going on :
It’s a big weekend for history buffs. Check out the Battle of Secessionville re-enactment going on at Boone Hall Plantation all weekend, or for a cheaper option, Charles Towne Landing hosts Colonial Trades and Harvest Day on Saturday with demonstrations of 17th-century cooking, dying, and cannons. Take a little roadtrip to Givhans Ferry State Park in Ridgeville to take a gander at the Roman Encampment and Marketplace.

The Digitel recommends the Holy City Cold Heart Revival
Finally, the Post & Courier’s Preview calendar starts with a Sunday oyster roast on Bowen’s Island. Can’t go wrong there.
It’s oyster season, woot!
