Play disc golf at Park Circle in North Charleston

The only free golf links in town!  Looking to get outside and have a good time honing your golf skills?  Try Park Circle’s 18-hole par 3 disc golf course.

The course rounds the outside of Park Circle in North Charleston and is usually not crowded.  The bars and restaurants down the street on Montague Ave. make a great 19th hole.

There are a few disc golf courses in the area.  Trophy Lakes on John’s Island has one for a fee, and I’ve heard there is a course in West Ashley.

Park Circle is technically an 18-hole course, but in reality you play the same 9 holes twice from different tees each round.  You might say it’s an 18-tee course.

All of the holes are par 3’s.  While some are easier than others, a good first throw can set you up for birdie tries on almost every hole.

December is probably the hardest time of year to play since the sun goes down well before 6:00.  I have some friends I play with after work on Fridays most of the year, but this time of year I only play during the day.

More information

Check out the Park Circle Disc Golf website, the Professional Disc Golf Association website and the Innova discs website (my favorite discs) for more info.

You can purchase discs at Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Citadel Mall for about $10 each.  A good starter set carries a distance driver, a straight-throwing mid-range disc, and a floppy putter.  You want your putter to be floppy so it doesn’t roll away when you miss. :)

Disc golf is a great time.  Park Circle is a friendly course for beginners but a hard course to perfect.  And with great watering holes down the road like Madra Rua and The Mill, what’s not to like?
