Charleston Museum offering fused glass workshop

The Charleston Museum and Blue Heron Glass are giving a fused glass workshop.  I’m not quite sure, but it sounds like they’re connecting the idea of quilt-making and stained glass.

I checked out the Blue Heron Glass website, and I’m impressed with some of the lead stained glass owner Mike Hiester has crafted.

Here’s a quote from the Charleston Museum’s press release:

In conjunction with its Crazy Quilts special exhibit, the Charleston Museum is teaming up with Blue Heron Glass for a two-day workshop. The style and design elements of crazy quilts translate beautifully into fused glass, so we will offer a Fused Glass Workshop on January 30 (9:00 a.m. - noon) and February 6 (10:00 a.m. - noon).  Learn how to cut glass to a pattern, the basics behind the science of fusing glass (melting compatible glasses together), and how to embellish with fused accents to create a crazy quilt affect.  Students will have a unique and decorative 8” crazy quilt panel to take home. Note: the workshop begins at the Museum with a tour of Crazy Quilts.  The rest of the workshop will take place at Blue Heron Glass in West Ashley.  Participants are responsible for their own transportation.  Advance registration is required; register online through the calendar of events at www.charlestonmuseum.org or call 722-2996 x235.  $75/member, $90/non-member (includes all supplies).

Sounds interesting.  Maybe it’s your thing.  I tried to get in touch with the instructor to get some details about the workshop, but she was unavailable at the time of this writing.
